Marsha McGregor’s work has also appeared or is forthcoming in Fourth Genre; Ascent; Zone 3; Brain, Child Magazine; River Teeth’s “Beautiful Things”; the Philadelphia Inquirer; YOU: An Anthology of Essays Devoted to the Second Person (Welcome Table Press), and elsewhere. Her personal essays appear regularly in Cleveland Magazine. She was a 2012 Peter Taylor Fellow and her novel manuscript was named a finalist for the Katherine Paterson Prize for Young Adult and Children’s Writing.

The Door

The ad in the paper said a new chain restaurant was opening. Apply in person between the hours of eleven and one. I got permission to leave school early to interview. I think I borrowed my boyfriend’s car. I was sixteen.
