The Rules of Thrillers

“Classic literary fiction may be all about the freedom to expand your mental horizons,” writes Andrew Galarneau, “but thrillers are different. Thrillers need rules.” The rules he references (“The Ten Commandments of Detective Fiction”) can be found here, along with an updated version that may explain the rule that baffled me most (“No Chinaman must figure in the story”).
