The Republic of Poetry: A Reading by Martin Espada
Espada will read at Kenyon College at 7pm in Storer Hall, in the Brandi Recital room. A reception and book signing will immediately follow, with copies of Espada’s work available for purchase. Born in New York of Puerto Rican heritage, Espada combines in his writing the complexities of the immigrant’s experience with the richness of the Latin American poetic traditions, all while following Walt Whitman’s admonition that “the attitude of great poets is to to cheer up slaves and horrify despots.” This event is free and open to the public, and is not to be missed!
