DEPEND UPON YOUR OWN PERSONAL EXERTIONS
the eye of the employer is worth more
than the hands of a dozen employees
an agent cannot be so faithful
to his employer as to himself
no man has a right to succeed
unless he understands his business
nobody can understand his business
unless he learns it by application
learn something every day
make mistakes nearly every day
there’s a little information
to be gained every day
thus a man buys experience
best if not purchased too dear
study natural history
bring reasoning from analogy
an apparent paradox:
be cautions and bold
exercise caution in laying plans
but be bold in carrying them out
a man who is all caution will never dare take hold
a man who is all boldness is merely reckless
boldness without caution is mere chance
caution and boldness insure success
never have anything to do with an unlucky man
so far as mere luck is concerned
like causes produce like effects
