Well, once again, it’s summer, and they’ve stopped showing the new stuff on television. Bummer, no? Here at The Kenyon Review, we’re hoping to offer the next best (and likely infinitely better!) thing, a kind of blog battle royal. It’ll be a journey through space, through time, but most importantly, it’ll be a journey through all six decades of The Kenyon Review. Over the next few weeks of glorious summer, we’ll scour each decade for its best and brightest moments: debut stories, poems and essays from future superstars–from Eliot to Pynchon, Plath to Penn Warren–along with some other gems we fear time (and we) may have forgotten. From each decade, we’ll select an issue that in our estimation is particularly potent. These stars will face off in two three-way, semi-final battles, one for the Old Series (1939-1969) and one for the New (1979-2011). The title of “Best Of” will be up to you, as we invite you to vote on your favorite contenders in the upcoming editions of The Kenyon Review newsletter. So, get excited, reader, we certainly are; the pages are about to burn.
