A $15,000 grant from the Amazon Literary Partnership is funding a pilot program to increase diversity among adult participants in the KR Writers Workshops. With funds from the new grant, KR is providing partial scholarships to seven talented writers from traditionally underrepresented groups in the 2018 program.
The scholarship recipients were originally nominated by workshop leaders. During the summer program, they have served as Peter Taylor Fellows, pursuing their own writing but also helping to direct the workshops and meeting individually with other participants.
“This is a new and significant resource as the Kenyon Review pursues its commitment to diversity at every age and every level of our programs,” says David Lynn, Banks Editor of KR. “Whether in print or online, as well as in our thriving community of writers who come to Gambier to participate in the workshops, KR seeks out and supports new voices and new perspectives from a broad variety of backgrounds. We hope to build on this pilot program next year and beyond.”
