I know Thanksgiving is in November, but friends have recently asked: how does KR do what it does? There are a bevy of reasons. But here’s a partial answer and a huge part of our success:
The Ohio Arts Council is a state agency with the specific purpose of funding and supporting arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally, and economically. They do this in two ways: by awarding grants to qualified proposals, and by providing services that help enhance the growth of the arts.
We’ve been enormously fortunate to have received great support from the OAC over the years. This presidential political season reminds me of just how precarious arts funding can be. If you are an Ohio resident, I encourage you to seek out your state representatives here and here. Send them a letter thanking them for their continued support of the arts through OAC funding; encourage them to allocate even more. Your support of the OAC increases their ability to support arts organizations like KR, as well as other deserving arts recipients.
Valuing the arts is a politics in which we can all participate.
