I woke up thinking about Marie Ponsot’s button. It says “Still Against War.” She wears it everywhere, I believe.
She is slight and when she reads her poems or looks at you, very seeing, you have your warrant in seeing refreshed.
In her poem “What Would You Like to Be When You Grow Up?” Ponsot writes about her house as “this tidy /body’s heart, my minded body.” She goes on: “It is the shabby residence /or sidereal repeat /of recurrent astonishment.”
Still against war. Still against war. I walk out to the township hall with my dog to vote.
