Patrick Phillips

Patrick Phillips’s third collection of poems, Elegy for a Broken Machine (Knopf, 2015), was a finalist for the National Book Award. His first book of nonfiction, Blood at the Root: A Racial Cleansing in America (Norton 2016), won an American Book Award from the Before Columbus Foundation and was named a best book for the year by the New York Times, the Boston Globe, and Smithsonian. Phillips is a former Guggenheim and NEA fellow, and teaches at Stanford University.
