Adania Shibli, (Palestine,1974) has two published novels and many short stories, narrative and art essays, which have appeared in various anthologies, art books and magazines. She has been twice the winner of the Qattan Young Writer’s Award-Palestine, for the year 2001 on her novel Masaas (Beirut: al-Adaab; translated into English as Touch, Northampton, MA: Clockroot Books, 2010) and the year 2003, on her novel Kulluna Ba’id bethat al Miqdar aan el-Hub (Beirut: al-Adaab, translated into English as We Are All Equally Far from Love, Northampton, MA: Clockroot Books, 2010). Her latest is an art book entitled Didspositions (2012). In 2009 she received a PhD in media and cultural studies, for her thesis, entitled “Visual Terror”. Shibli has been a lecturer at the university of Nottingham, UK and presently, lectures at Birzeit University, Palestine.
Suneela Mubayi is a graduate student in Arabic literature in the department of Middle East and Islamic Studies at NYU and counts translation amongst her academic interests. She has translated other poems and short stories from Arab writers into English which have been published in Banipal magazine, Beirut39, Jadaliyya, Word Without Borders, and elsewhere. She hopes one day to be able to call herself a poet.
