Sara Reish Desmond‘s work has appeared in publications including The Los Angeles Review, Cutthroat, and Front Porch. Her stories have been finalists for the Rick DeMarinis Award in short fiction and the Copper Nickel Award in short fiction. Sara is a teacher who lives outside of Boston with her husband and two young daughters. She is particularly interested in the liminal nature of adolescents and often features them as characters in her work. She is nearing completion on a collection of short fiction that features characters who reside at the limen. “Cicadas” is one of those stories.
