As I leave BART, a man is preaching into a microphone, “Cristo! Cristo es bueno!” loudly enough the words follow me to 24th. His voice is like an old cassette tape, staticky and melodic. The timbre of an oiled trombone. It’s pumped so loud through the speaker that I can’t find him in the crowd, but I imagine him as a young boy, maybe fifteen, with gorgeous slicked-back hair.
