Socrates, in one of Plato’s discourses, says that the act of voting should only be the privilege of learned people. A few years ago, when I read this statement, I felt a disgust towards my aversion and ignorance towards politics at the time. The state of things here in Brazil shows clearly the consequences of our choice to ignore the political debate and to be easily manipulated. Voting not only is a very symbolic action a citizen can take to change the state of things, but more importantly promotes the debate essential for our “democracy” to persevere. Although voting generally gives me the feeling of impotence to change anything, this in turn results in a desire to express and change things through my actions and creations.
