I Do Not Know How Anything Gets Here

this paper for instance
what tree was felled
into what silence
what grief
what notch what stroke
stripped of its limbs
debarked de-lignined
the wound now
drinks the sky alone
every word I ever wrote
I wrote on a eucalyptus
or if recycled
whose hand was shredded
to bind mine
and one day all my hours
will be forgotten
into a single breath
for someone else to begin
their small story with
what mouth will hold me
what mouth will release me
